Wheat Information. Includes basic information for those interested in
trading, exporting or importing American-produced wheat, from
production to export. The information is taken from U.S. Wheat:
Quality, Variety, Dependability, a U.S. Wheat Associates publication.
In
the international wheat market, the U.S. wheat producer is regarded as
one of the most innovative and productive in the world. Currently, more
than half of the U.S. wheat produced is exported to overseas customers,
and those exports often account for a third of the wheat that crosses
international boundaries each year. This unique role in the world wheat
trade results from several factors. U.S. producers have the capacity to
respond to the world's need for food. The United States is the only
dependable supplier of a wide variety of wheat classes and qualities.
This dependability allows the U.S. wheat industry to vigorously meet
the challenge of the international wheat market with a quality and
price competitive product. Finally, the United States has the most
sophisticated and extensive storage and transportation infrastructure
in the world. The possibility of shipping from the Atlantic, Pacific,
Gulf and St. Lawrence ports enables an unhindered flow of wheat into
export channels throughout the year. U.S. marketing logistics and port
facilities are second to none.
Key officials from government,
grain purchasing agencies and representatives of the milling and baking
industries from around the world regularly visit the United States to
study and tour the wheat production and marketing systems. As the
overseas market development organization for the U.S. wheat producer,
U.S. Wheat Associates welcomes the opportunity to show these
representatives all aspects of the industry.
Through the years,
U.S. Wheat Associates has found that the interests of visiting overseas
delegations fall into fairly definite patterns--wheat production,
domestic marketing, export marketing, transportation, utilization,
technology, U.S. government programs and commodity exchanges. This is
information and data, that when applied at home, can prove useful and
profitable in buying the types of wheat best suited to the needs of the
milling and baking industries.
This brochure is based on
experience gained in helping such visitors. It attempts in a broad way
to assemble and summarize the kind of information most often requested.
U.S. Wheat Associates hopes it will be useful to every reader who,
through trade, has a link with the U.S. wheat industry.
This
information is designed to serve only as an introduction to the U.S.
wheat industry. Readers desiring additional information will find a
useful list of references at the end of the publication. U.S. Wheat
Associates will, of course, be glad to supplement such information
through correspondence or first-hand assistance from its overseas
offices.
